Now Featuring EVEN MORE Tackling And Grappling Than Ever Before: Week Two Continues In The TGGL

More lightweight action and antics out of Middleburg Heights, Ohio as the TGGL rages on in this feature. The night would see some great matches, and a whole mess of excitement.

The first match in this series would pit Tackle’s Luke Baeppler vs John Soltis of CIBJJ. Both men with 12 league points already in their back pocket. Let’s take a look at their match and see who wants some more points!

The match starts with Baeppler securing an immediate takedown, but Soltis does well to defend. Soltis sweeps Baeppler to avoid the immediate threat of mount or side control, and begins to work his guard.

We first see Soltis work out of a sort of reverse mount position, Baeppler briefly attempting a triangle of sorts, and then we see Soltis transition into side control, presently displaying positional dominance.

After several moments of various side control transitions and even some threats at knee on belly, we see Soltis make the transition to Mount.

After gradually walking his mount up the body of Luke Baeppler, we see Soltis begin to isolate an arm, and proceed to armbar Luke for the victory and the points!

Next up, we’d see Andrew Meissner of Cleveland Institute of Bjj face off against Control Martial Arts’ Tj Stuber. Stuber with 12 league points from previous matches and Meissner entering the match with zero league points to date.

Initially it looked like both men were going to prefer some wrestling in this match, but just after Stuber feints a shot, we see Meissner drop in on a leg.

Once on the leg of Stuber, Meissner makes quick work getting to the heelhook, and finishing the match handily.

The next match of the league night would show Tackle’s Marty Rehor vs Levitate Jiujitsu’s Mason Stanley. Rehor with 18 league points, however Mason Stanley with 25 of his own.

We would see Mason opt to pull guard this match, not a bad choice giving Marty’s typical pace and proficiency in wrestling.

The match would, after some time, transition to turtle, where we’d see Rehor on top, fishing for a head and arm grip for something like a d’arce, where Stanley, hand fighting, looking for his opportunity to attack.

The two were largely back and forth, occationally opting to reset themselves back in standing, just to wind up back in turtle again, it is there where Stanley opts to go for a sweep, and sweep he does, landing himself in top side control.

The match would see a lot of great back and forth efforts from both men, but at the end it appeared Stanley would get another victory via Peruvian necktie, however just before sinking it in, the match was over, having went the full length of 6 minutes.

The judges would end up scoring the match in favor of Mason Stanley, who would walk away with the points and the victory.

The next match of the evening would see Epifanio Peterson of Academy 440 go against Luke Baeppler of Tackle Jiujitsu. Epi heading into the match with 18 league points, and Luke not far behind with 12 of his own points.

We would see Peterson drop down and attempt a leg entanglement after briefly engaging in some hand fighting with Baeppler, but Baeppler scrambles and defends well.

After spawing on the first leg entrance, both men would stand back up before Peterson, once again, drops down for a leg, this time more successfully capturing one, however Baeppler once again defends well, by pressuring down.

Eventually though, Epi would find his leg, and finish Baeppler via straight ankle after Baeppler rolled out of an initial heelhook attempt.

The final match of the evening would pit Tyler Wittreich vs Bobby Berry, both men fighting out of Tackle Jiujitsu in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. Wittreich, the current head of the pack in the lightweight division of TGGL, and Bobby still without any league points as of this contest.

We would see both men opting to stand in this match, which makes sense given both of their respective wrestling backgrounds.

Wittreich would knee-cut right past Berry’s guard, securing top position and even motioning for a sort of head and arm choke.

From side control, Berry would opt to turtle, exposing his back to Wittreich, who would proceed to ride Berry, looking for an opening beneath the chin of Berry.

Wittreich did not find the choke he was looking for, but instead handily isolates Berry’s should and sinks the armbar for the points and the victory.

After tonight’s league play, Wittreich firmly leads the pack in TGGL’s lightweight division. Who will challenge his supremacy? What matches or rematches pique your interest the most? Let us know down in the comments! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
