Out of the TGGL we have a lightweight division matchup between Tackle’s Dan Hughes and John Soltis out of Cleveland Institute of BJJ. Hughes coming off a defeat against Epifanio Peterson, while this is Soltis’ first match of the season. Both men without league points at time of this match.
Both men stick with an upright posture in the early moments of this match, preferring handfighting and collarties to either man attempting a shot. We would see Hughes with a few standing guillotine attempts, but nothing meaningful.

Eventually it would be Hughes who would choose to sit to guard, falling back to k-guard almost immediately, and trying like mad to get on one of the legs of John Soltis, but Soltis would do well to keep his pressure down, grinding away on Hughes.
When he wasn’t trying deperatly to dig out the left leg of John Soltis, Hughes would occasionally attack a sort of away restriction using his forearm and a collartie in an attempt to get the tap from John. It wasn’t very successful.

Eventually, Hughes would get tired of laying on his back, and would attempt to standup into Soltis, however in doing so, Soltis immediately found and ankle and heelhooked Hughes for the win and the points.

In a post match interview Soltis stated that he was “kinda disappointed” in how the match had went, stating that he would have preferred a more traditional approach using superior position to get to a more respectable finish, but at the end of the day, a win is a win, and John got his points! Don’t forget to let us know what you thought about the match down below! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
