Local Grappler’s Deformed Ear Fails To Impress Anyone But Himself

Cleveland, OH – Local jiu-jitsu aficionado, Chad “The Crusher” Cruthers, 32, is reportedly in a state of profound shock after discovering that his prized cauliflower ear is not the universally admired badge of honor he believed it to be. Cruthers, a purple belt at Gracie Barra Cleveland West, has long considered his grotesquely swollen ear to be a testament to his dedication and toughness on the mats.

“I thought chicks dug it, man,” a visibly shaken Cruthers confessed to Pro Grappler while absentmindedly picking at his ear. “I mean, it’s like a trophy, right? It shows I’m a warrior, that I’ve put in the time. I figured women would be lining up to touch it.”

Cruthers’ delusion was shattered last week during a rare social outing with non-jiu-jitsu friends. After confidently pointing out his “battle scar” to a group of women at a local bar, he was met not with admiration, but with a mixture of disgust and thinly veiled mockery.

“One of them actually asked if I had a golf ball stuck in my ear,” Cruthers lamented. “Another one said it looked like a ‘deformed croissant.’ A croissant, people! I’ve spilled blood for this thing!”

The situation escalated when Cruthers attempted to explain the significance of cauliflower ear, launching into a detailed description of the repeated trauma and hematoma drainage required to achieve such a magnificent specimen. This only served to further alienate the group, who promptly excused themselves to “freshen their drinks.”

Cruthers’ fellow grapplers, while sympathetic, admit they are not entirely surprised by the public’s reaction.

“Chad’s a bit… enthusiastic about his ear,” said training partner, Dave “The Destroyer” Davidson. “He’s always trying to show it off, even in inappropriate situations. Like, dude, no one wants to see that at a wedding.”

Dr. Emily Carter, a local ENT specialist, offered a more clinical perspective. “Cauliflower ear is essentially a deformity caused by repeated blunt force trauma to the ear. While it may signify dedication to a combat sport, from a medical standpoint, it’s not exactly aesthetically pleasing. In fact, it can lead to hearing loss and other complications if left untreated.”

Cruthers, however, remains unconvinced. “These people just don’t understand the jiu-jitsu lifestyle,” he insists. “They’re sheep. They’ll never know the glory of a truly mangled ear.”

Despite his recent setback, Cruthers vows to continue training, albeit with a slightly diminished sense of swagger. “Maybe I’ll start wearing a hat,” he mused. “Or maybe I’ll just find a woman who appreciates a good cauliflower ear. They’re out there, right?”

Pro Grappler would like to remind its readers that while dedication to the sport is admirable, it’s important to maintain a sense of perspective. And perhaps, invest in some good headgear.
