In this recap we are taking a look at the TGGL’s heavyweight division (or the Big Boy Bonanza, as some might call it). There’s been a lot of side control leading up to this moment, so without further delay let’s get into the excitement!

First match of the evening is Academy 440’s Logan Lohr vs Gavyn Byrnes, a fill-in for the heavyweight division out of Tackle Jiujitsu. Both men entering the contest with no league points.
The match would begin with a bit of a heavyweight dance of sorts, both men sort of collar-tying and shuffling about the mat space. Though after sometime, we see Lohr opt to pull guard rather than continue to dance.

After pulling guard, Lohr finds himself under Byrnes’ side control, after Brynes passes his guard. Here we would see Byrnes begin to isolate and try to extend Lohr’s arm away from the side of his body.
Though he would fail at his initial attempts for a straight armbar from top side, we’d see Byrnes stick with it, eventually weaving his way into an americana from top side control taking the submission, the points, and the victory.

The next match features Logan Lohr vs Kyle Vlcek, Vlcek fighting out of Tackle Jiujitsu. Logan coming into the match still with no league points, whereas Kyle has 48 league points.
There would be a small amount (but not much) of hand fighting as the match go underway, but we would see Vlcek score first with a takedown, and proceed to move into first a sort of side mount, and then into full mount.

Though we would see Lohr battle out, at one point in top position of Vlcek’s guard, Kyle would prove to be just too strong of a wrestling force, as he bulls Lohr back over, and proceeds to take back mount.
Once back on top, we see Kyle start to isolate Lohr’s arm, and set up a kimura grip, finishing the maneuver for the tap, points, and the victory.

With this season of the TGGL wrapping up, what were some highlights you found memorable? What rematches or rivalries revisited would you like to see in potential future seasons? Let us know down below in the comments! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
