We Are SO Back! The TGGL 2 Lightweight Division Is Here And Has Officially Kicked Off!

With it’s new format changes, and a few new faces, the TGGL is back (and better than ever?)! Last Friday marked the kickoff of the TGGL featuring a lightweight match between Epifanio Peterson of Academy 440, and Dan Hughes out of Tackled Jiujitu (and alleged Prograppler journalist). Both men without points, as the season has just begun.

No one should be shocked that this was a contest to sit down first, as both of these competitors are known for playing guard. Peterson gets to the mat first, and immediately gets a hook on Hughes’ leg, but Hughes defends using a strong collar-tie.

We would see these fighters trade top/bottom a few times over, but most of the time they appeared to just be hunting leg entrances.

Apart from menacing Peterson’s feet from open and butterfly guard, we would see Hughes attack a guillotine at one point, but not to great success.

Soon though, Hughes would find himself over-committed and off balance exposing his leg to Peterson.

Peterson would then roll over into a straight ankle with a clean bite, and proceed to go belly-down as Hughes just sort of lazily watches. Hughes would tap moment later, conceding the points and the victory to Epifanio Peterson.

A rough start for Cowboy Dan in his first TGGL match, but that’s the beauty of having a league as long as the TGGL, there’s plenty of chances for redemption! But what a finish for Peterson, as he shows clean breaking mechanics as he finishes the straight ankle off of his leg entry! Let me know what you thought down in the comments! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
