Local Blue Belt Deported To China After Joke About White Belt Being Deported To Brazil Backfires Spectacularly

DATELINE: Middleburg Heights, OH – The tight-knit community at Smackle Jiujitsu Academy is reeling this week after one of their own, 36-year-old bluebelt Don Lewes, was swiftly deported to the People’s Republic of China following a series of deeply unfortunate locker room misunderstandings involving federal immigration authorities.

Lewes, a precarious three-stripe blue belt known mostly for his extensive collection of limited-edition Shoyoroll gis and his chronic inability to attend warm-ups due to “a weird thing in my meniscus,” is, or was, a U.S. citizen born in suburban Cleveland.

The geopolitical Rube Goldberg machine began last Tuesday night after advanced class. Lewes was offering unsolicited advice to a two-week white belt named Chad Johnson, a 32-year-old middle manager from Akron, Ohio.

Witnesses say Johnson was struggling with a basic hip escape when Lewes, toweling off sweat and adjusting his knee sleeve, leaned in.

“Careful there, buddy,” Lewes reportedly chuckled, slapping the mat. “You shrimp any harder toward the door and ICE is gonna think you’re trying to escape back to Rio. They’ll ship your ass straight to the favelas. OSS.”

It was a classic “blue belt flexing on a newbie” joke, mildly offensive, geopolitically ignorant, and deeply unfunny. But fate, it seems, was listening.

According to confused reports, an overheard phone conversation mentioning “shipping a white belt,” combined with a catastrophic clerical error at the Department of Homeland Security involving a mix-up between “Caucasoid male” and “Canton province,” led to agents storming the dojo forty-eight hours later.

“It was surreal,” said Apex head instructor ‘Professor’ Mike. “We were drilling stack passes when four guys in tactical gear burst in. They ignored Chad completely and bee-lined for Don. Don tried to pull De La Riva guard on the lead agent. It… it was not effective. He got wrist-locked immediately.”

Despite Lewes frantically waving his Ohio driver’s license and screaming, “I was born in Bedford! I don’t even like Chinese food! I’m a keto guy!”, he was processed, put on a plane, and dropped in Beijing within 72 hours. The bureaucratic momentum was apparently too strong to stop just because the premise was entirely fabricated.

“We tried to tell them,” said Chad, the white belt who was the subject of the original joke. “I told the agents, ‘I’m from Ohio, and Don is just kind of a douchebag who watches too many podcasts.’ But they just kept muttering about ‘strategic asset relocation’ and put Don in a van.”

The BJJ community braced for horror stories of Lewes rotting in a foreign prison. However, in a shocking twist that has confused everyone back home, Henderson’s recent correspondence suggests he is thriving.

In a lengthy email sent to Professor Mike, subject line “OSS from the Orient – My New Dojo,” Henderson described his new life in glowing terms.

“Guys, you aren’t going to believe this,” Lewes wrote. “The first day I got here, I tripped on a curb and tweaked that same meniscus. I went to a clinic. No wait time. They did an MRI, gave me acupuncture, and taped it up. Total cost was like, four dollars American. I think I still owe Quest Diagnostics $1,200 back home for bloodwork from 2019. This socialized medicine thing is legit.”

Henderson continued, raving about his living situation.

“I got a studio apartment in the Haidian District. It’s clean, modern, and my rent is $350 a month. In Cleveland, that wouldn’t get me a cardboard box behind a Domino’s. I finally have disposable income to buy more rashguards.”

Perhaps most disturbingly, Lewes has apparently established himself as a grappling authority in his new neighborhood.

“Nobody here really knows what BJJ is yet,” Lewes bragged. “I showed up at a local judo club wearing my blue belt. I told them it was a ‘Master’s Rank’ in ‘American Ground-Karate.’ I tapped two white belts with a sloppy Americana and now they call me ‘Sifu Don’. I’m teaching a seminar this weekend on the Berimbolo. I have no idea how to do it, but neither do they. Living the dream.”

At press time, Don was reportedly looking into renouncing his U.S. citizenship, claiming that while he misses deep-dish pizza, the ability to afford both housing and an MRI in the same month is “the ultimate leverage.”
