As more coverage of Middleburg Heights Ohio’s TGGL(Tackle Grapple Grappling League) becomes available, the action rages on, as today’s recap features the big boys of Tackle Grapple’s heavyweight division. Week two has already shown several strong competitors distance themselves from the back with notable(in some cases) leads in league points.

The first match of the evening would pit two of Tackle Jiujitsu’s finest heavyweights against each other, Kyle Vlcek vs Ben Brunskole. Kyle walking into the match with 12 league points, whereas Ben only having 4 at the start of the match.
It would be Brunskole who would take the first shot of this match up, going in for a single leg takedown, but Kyle defends well, shifting his weight, and adjusting his hands.

Vlcek hunkers down and adjusts his hands for an arm in guillotine attempt, but Brunskole defends well, wrestling out and escaping danger for the time being.
Eventually, we see Ben escape out the backdoor, so to speak, but he’s not out of danger yet.

We see Kyle get a hold of one of Ben’s ankles and gradually bite down, entering a pretty deep leg entanglement.
As Kyle starts to roll into the lock, we see him really bite down, getting the tap by way of heelhook, and walking away with the points and the victory.

The next match of the evening would pit two more Tackle boys against one another. This time, we would see Christian Saunders face off against Kyle Vlcek. Christian without any current league points, as he is acting as a fill in for this match, Kyle with a current total of 24 league points upon the start of this match.
We see Christian opt to pull guard, most aptly in due part to Kyle’s wrestling background, but also his overall size, as Kyle is one of the stronger of the TGGL’s heavyweights.

We eventually see Kyle work around side control to a sort of north south position. Christian trying to work back some frames into position, but Kyle just doing a really good job of maintaining pressure.
Eventually, we would see Kyle work his way into mount, and start working some submission attempts, the whole time maintaining a strong top side presence.

Though other submissions were attempted, including a head and arm choke, and a sort of catch-wrestling body crank, we would see Vlcek get the eventual sub by way of mounted americana.

Next up, we’ve go Christian Saunders out of Tackle Jiujitsu going up against Nate Dawson, also of Tackle Jiujitsu. Saunders still without league points, and Dawson walking into the match with 8 points of his own.

We see Dawson go for a takedown near immediately, not giving Saunders the chance to pull guard and establish connection on his own terms. Dawson armdrags to a high-crotch, taking Saunders to the ground, where the match would largely remain most of the match (I think…)
Soon after taking Saunders to the ground, we see Dawson work to establish tip side control, and eventual mount position, but really he seemed contended in top side north-south.

There is a period in the stream where the two men are largely out of frame, and it is difficult to decern the on-going action…luckily I was there, and you’re only missing out on some north-south(sorry if that’s your sort of thing…)
Eventually though, the two men get reset in the center of the mats in mount(so presumably they were also in mount and not just north-south, as I had previously inferred. Sue me).

Though we would see several darce attempts from Dawson, and even what appeared to be a sort of head and arm choke, the match would go the full distance, with Dawson being declared victor by judge’s decision, citing largely his submission attempts and positional dominance.

The final match of the evening would be between Nate Dawson fighting out of Tackle Jiujitsu and Ben Brunskole…also fighting out of Tackle. Nate is coming into this match with 12 league points, where as Ben has only 4.

This match would largely be a bit of a wrestling match, both men hand fighting and scrambling back and forth for much of the match, and though several dominant positions were achieved, no meaningful submission attempts were launched by either man.
This match, like the one previous cuts on a some action a couple of times, as both men take the action off camera a couple of times over.

The match would see the men reset, and then wrestle back off center several times over, being reset both standing and in position. Ultimately the match would not even be determinable at the end of the six minute standard round, the judges then opting to send the men into sudden death overtime, the first points taking the decision.
After a brief tussle, we see Dawson gets the throw, taking the points and the victory in his match against Ben Brunskole.

So how about those heavyweights?! Side control, am I right, guys(/and gals)? What did you think of tonight’s matchups? Let us know down in the comments! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
