And just like that, Tackle’s TGGL summer league draws to a close, finishing with the heavyweights. The TGGL’s heavyweight division has largely been dominated by side-control and referee decisions, but maybe we’ll get lucky and someone will opt to bring their girlfriend to league night, spurring them on to submission victories?!…

First match of the series would pit two Tacklers against one another. Kyle Vlcek faces off against Alex *redacted*. Vlcek walks into the match a clear front runner in the division with 72 league points, whereas *redacted* has only 4 of his own.
Early into the match we see Kyle go for and successfully (and gently) land the takedown, scoring first in the match.

After landing the takedown, we see Kyle work his way into mount, while Mr. *redacted* looks to build some frames, to establish his guard back.
After slipping out of a triangle attempt, we see *redacted* land in 50/50 with Vlcek. Alex immediately gets a bite on Kyle’s heal, but it was not enough to deter him, as he defends well and goes back on the attack.

After sweeping Alex into mount from turtle, we see him begin to work a choke immediately, finishing a nogi ezekiel choke on *redacted* for the points and the victory.

The next match of the evening would see Tackle’s Ben Brunskole vs Logan Lohr of Academy 440. Ben enters the match with 12 league points, and Logan with 4 of his own.

After a brief battle of hand fighting and looking for control points, we see Brunskole score first with the takedown, spinning around the the back off of a duck under.
After putting up a brief guard game, we see Lohr turtle, and Brunskole immediately capitalizes, sinking in his hooks, flattening him out, and thereafter sinking in the choke for the points and the victory.

Up next, we would see Ben Brunskole vs Alex *redacted*, both fighters fighting out of Tackle Jiujitsu. Ben enters the contest with 12 league points, and Alex with 4.
As with his previous match, we see Ben get to the back off of a duck under, and then proceed to transition into side-control.

At one point, we would see Brunskole threaten a 270 choke on *redacted*, but he just doesn’t seem to have the correct angle and the choke dissipates back to side control.
After turtling his way out of side control, we find *redacted* in some deep water as Brunskole slips both hook in, flattening *redacted* out and securing the cohke just so to elicit a quick tap.

The final match of the evening, and indeed the season, would pit Academy 440’s Logan Lohr vs Tackle’s Kyle Vlcek. Lohr approaches the match with 4 league points, and Kyle with a whopping 84 league points.
We would see Kyle secure the takedown with a sort of trip, blocking the knee of Logan Lohr and taking the match to the ground.

Once on the ground, Vlcek would make short work of the match, getting to Lohr’s back. Lohr, despite fighting out of the initial choke would fall victim to a second effort, just moments later. Kyle walking away with the points, the victory and the league championship.

I love it when the heavyweights use submissions! It makes for such a smoother flow of matches! What was your favorite match of the season? Let us know about it down in the comments! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
