More Middleweight Action Out Of The TGGL: Chaney Vs Tyson

Today out of the TGGL, we are taking a look at JD Tyson fighting out of Iron And Soul going head to head with Gary Chaney out of Cleveland Institute of BJJ. Both men enter this match at their TGGL 2 debut without points.

JD Tyson would strike first, scoring a single-leg takedown on Gary Chaney, and landing right in Chaney’s guard. Chaney would start right away looking to mount a counter attack of his own, first with a triangle setup, and then trying to isolate the arm of Tyson.

In his earnestness to isolate the arm, Chaney gives up some ground to Tyson who would use the pressure of the situation to push forward past the guard of Chaney.

Chaney would get a promising look at a straight ankle after digging out a leg from underneath JD Tyson, however he fails to control the bottom hip of Tyson, and the two men part ways from this entanglement.

In the second half of the match we would see JD Tyson attempt to push pace a little bit more, as the match had been exceptionally close and hard to tell in the first half.

At the end of the six minutes, neither man would have the victory by submission, so instead it went to decision where all three judges rule in favor of JD Tyson, siting his aggression in the second half as their main reasoning.

What did you think of the judge’s decision? I can see calling the match in a different way after re-watching it! Gary put up a hell of a fight, and if things had went a little different in some of these exchanges, he could have easily taken home the points. Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below! And, as always, thank you for grappling!
